Braun 8985 360 Complete Mens' Shaver Special Pack

My fiancee received it for Christmas, and seemed very pleased. The battery operated bonus shaver seemed to work well. I think he was very happy with the gift.

it's quite a compelte set, it's a gift, so I don't know whether it is good to use...

I bought a Braun Free Glider 5708 shaver a couple of years ago when the replacement 2-3- razor blade cartridges for my Gillette Sensor seemed to be rising in price every three to four months.

It took some time to get use to, and I suffered the normal electric razor burns if I tried to shave too close, but overall, it worked fairly well in giving me a good shave. But after two years, the head needs replacement, and at about the same cost as what I had paid for the entire razor.

So this last month when Amazon had the Braun 8985 360 Complete Men's Shaver Special Pack on sale for $99.95, I bought that. First the positives of the new Braun.

Its quieter, and shaves quicker and closer than the Braun Free Glider 5708, at twice the price, but with less "pulling" and razor burn. And they included a "cleaning system" and a "free" $20.00 travel razor. The travel razor shaves just as well as my older Braun 5708 did when it was new, but uses up the AA batteries quickly.

The only negative, so far, is the cleaning system. The shaver came with one cleaning cartridge and works very well. But the alcohol in the cartridge is SD 40, mixed with perfume, and that evaporates fairly fast just by sitting. The 5.7 ounce replacement cleaning cartridges are very expensive, for what you get.

It states not to refill them, but with SD 40 alcohol, without perfume, selling for just $3.50+ a quart I'll chance it.

In total, with the travel razor, the shaver is worth the $99.95 price. I guess that the larger profits are made on the replacement cleaning cartridges, which I'll not use, if refilling them doesn't work.
